Black Women’s Wellness
Do you believe health, wellbeing, and healing is a choice supported by action? Dr. FeLisa would shout “YASSS”! She is a Black Health & Wellness Practitioner who is passionate and committed to working with women and girls at various stages of their lifespans. Besides her many certificates in wellness, nutrition, and holistic healing, Dr. FeLisa also has a Master in Women’s Health with a concentration in Black Women’s Health.
As a Black health expert, she studied the history, medical experimentations, and discriminatory practices that were performed, specifically on the Black woman’s body. Given such generational traumas and the mistrust of healthcare providers throughout history, Dr. FeLisa is intentional about using a conscious living approach with a focus on wellness and ancestral healing to address the health traumas and conditions that many Black women have inherited.
What is a conscious living approach?
Dr. FeLisa believes conscious living is being intentional and self-aware about doing things that you want to do in order to bring purpose and value to your life. Also, living consciously means not staying stuck or wasting time; it means being present, inspired, driven, and committed.
Dr. FeLisa will examine and support the needs of the whole person using the WellEquity Wellness protocol. The goal is to work collaboratively in order to find homeostasis, in other words, self-regulate your own balance within various areas of your life. Once you learn and apply restorative practices, you have the ability to deal with the ups and downs of life in a balanced way that promotes your self-growth.
What is ancestral healing?
Because there are different modalities and practices for ancestral healing, Dr. FeLisa will focus on mindset to better understand beliefs, behaviors, and patterns that were learned and passed down. The findings from that process can contribute to positive or negative actions and behaviors towards health, wellness, and wellbeing. This partnership is done in small tangible steps to avoid feeling anxious or overwhelmed, with the hopes of starting the process of healing.
Why is this approach effective?
Dr. FeLisa is very clear and concise with her delivery, which is ideal when explaining the language of health. She simplifies medical terminology and jargon in a way that is easily comprehended as well as how the body functions, what the body needs, and restorative practices to improve overall health.
We are living in times where being your own advocate must be practiced as a way of life. Dr. FeLisa believes that healing starts with personal understanding and she prides herself on being an educator first in order to empower women to work in partnership with their healthcare providers. Because she practices and knows the power of preventative and holistic care, both approaches will center her wellness protocols.
Dr. FeLisa is invested in the human soul. She understands no one is perfect and in order to be proactive in their wellness and healing journey, one’s process has to be nonjudgmental, realistic, slow, and steady. Her philosophy does not believe in diets, fads, what’s popular, or quick results. Instead, it is about meeting women where they are, assisting them with small changes while focusing on consistency, not perfection. That is the formula for the journey of wellness because it is a way of living; the process will be imperfect and constantly evolving because we are imperfect people trying to do better.
